In this veterinary webinar, Anthony Chadwick, a dermatologist from Liverpool, UK, discusses why pyoderma is such a common presentation and then looks at ways to treat the condition using topical and systemic treatments.
The dog is a pyoderma waiting to happen because of many factors. This should not surprise us as many of our consultations are derm related. A pyoderma is always related to an underlying problem. It is important, therefore, to look for an underlying cause as well as treat the pyoderma. Often antibiotic courses are too short to completely clear the infection. A minimum of three weeks antibiotics is required for treatment with longer courses if the infection is deeper.
Anthony also discuss some of the common pitfalls when treating canine pyoderma and demonstrate his approach to the dog with pyoderma.
